Private desktop integration

Privacy policy

Codex Gmail Connections is a private, locally operated Gmail integration for the account owner's use with Codex.

Information accessed and purpose

With the account owner's Google authorization, the integration can access email messages, their headers and bodies, conversation threads, labels, mailbox settings available through the Gmail read-only scope, and attachments. This enables the owner to search and read their accounts, retrieve attachments, and ask Codex questions about selected email content.

The integration requests the Gmail read-only scope. It does not request permission to send, edit, archive, or delete mail.

Processing and sharing

The local integration retrieves data directly from Google's Gmail API and returns requested results to Codex. Email content returned to Codex may be processed by OpenAI and included in Codex conversation records under the owner's applicable OpenAI terms, privacy policies, and account settings. Downloaded attachments or exported messages are saved locally when requested. This integration does not operate a separate hosted email-processing service or an advertising service.

The operator does not sell Google user data or use it for advertising. Data is used to provide the owner's requested email functionality. Codex Gmail Connections' use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Credentials and retention

Google OAuth credentials are stored separately for each account on the owner's Mac, with filesystem permissions restricting access to the owner's operating-system account. The integration does not collect Google passwords. OAuth credentials are retained locally to maintain access until removed or revoked. Requested downloads and Codex conversation records have separate retention controlled by their respective applications and the owner.

Control and deletion

The owner can revoke access through their Google Account's third-party connections settings. Local credentials and downloaded files can be removed from the Mac; revoking Google access does not itself delete previously downloaded files or existing Codex conversations. Conversation deletion and retention are managed through the applicable Codex/OpenAI controls.
